Jane is a retired/non-practising solicitor specialising in all aspects of food law, including: food safety; food hygiene; food labelling; compositional requirements; food additives; food contact materials; chemical contaminants; pesticide and veterinary medicine residues; biological safety; marketing standards; GM; novel foods; food supplements; import regulations; and animal feed.

Jane is a leading professional in food law and one of the few specialists in this area nationally. She is a member of the Food Law Group and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and has lectured extensively on the subject.

Jane is the Director of Magna Law Ltd a niche company providing specialist consultancy services to the Food /Agriculture sector. Magna Law provides advice and consultancy services, in particular proactive advice to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation, in food law and the law relating to public rights of way and access to land.

As well as her legal qualifications and experience, Jane also has a strong scientific background. Her first degree was in physiology and biochemistry and during her career she has worked as a Research Biochemist at St Thomas’s Hospital and as a Senior Information Scientist at the Department of Health dealing with the health effects of chemicals in food, consumer products and the environment.

Jane has considerable experience in advising food companies of all sizes throughout the whole of the food chain on how to comply with the food law relevant to their business. Where necessary, Jane will provide advice and support to companies when things may have gone wrong or they are subject to regulatory challenge.
